Who we are

Dead Quiet is a mixing, mastering and production studio that also develops and sells audio plugins. This policy explains what we do with your personal information when you use deadquiet.studio, download a demo, or buy a licence.

What we collect

When you download a demo or buy a licence. Your name, email address, billing address and country, the products you ordered, your order history, and the licence keys issued to you. Payment card details are entered directly with our payment processor and are never stored on our servers or seen by us.

When you use the site. Your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and how you arrived. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies.

When you join our mailing list. Your email address and name, and a record of which emails you opened and clicked.

When you enquire about or book studio services. Your contact details, the information you give us about your project, and any audio or project files you upload. These are handled through Studio OS, our project system (see “Who we share it with”), and are used to respond to your enquiry and provide the service.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To fulfil your order, deliver your files and issue and support your licence key. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
  • To send you marketing emails about our plugins and studio. Lawful basis: consent, given when you download a plugin or sign up. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • To measure and improve our advertising, including showing you and people like you our ads on Meta platforms. Lawful basis: consent for the cookies involved, and our legitimate interest in running our business.
  • To keep proper financial records and meet our tax obligations. Lawful basis: legal obligation.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the services we need to run the business:

  • Stripe, to take payments. Stripe processes your card details directly.
  • Mailchimp (Intuit), to send and manage our email. Your name, email address and order history are synced to Mailchimp so we can send relevant messages.
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram), for advertising. See the section below.
  • Hostinger, who host the website and its database.
  • Railway, the cloud platform that hosts Studio OS, our project system for studio-service enquiries, submissions and audio file handling. We are currently completing our records of this provider’s data-protection terms.

Some of these providers are based outside the UK and EEA, including in the United States. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the safeguards those providers put in place, such as standard contractual clauses or an approved data protection framework.

Advertising and Meta

We use the Meta Pixel on this website. It records which pages you visit, when you download a demo, and when you complete a purchase, and sends that information to Meta so we can measure whether our advertising works and show ads to people who have shown an interest in what we make.

We also upload customer lists to Meta as Custom Audiences. This lets us show ads to our existing customers, avoid showing ads to people who have already bought, and find new people with similar interests through what Meta calls Lookalike Audiences. Email addresses are hashed before they are sent, meaning they are converted into an irreversible string of characters rather than shared in readable form.

If you would rather we did not include you, email mgmt@deadquiet.studio and we will remove you from these audiences. You can also control ad personalisation in your Meta account settings.

The Meta Pixel only runs if you allow marketing cookies in our cookie banner. If you make no choice, decline, or later withdraw consent, the Pixel is not loaded and sends nothing.

Cookies

We use a consent banner to control cookies and similar technologies. It gives you three equal choices: Accept, Deny, or View preferences to choose per category. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page.

Necessary and functional. These always run because the shop cannot work without them: remembering what is in your basket and keeping you logged in (WooCommerce), your light or dark theme preference, and small first-party cookies that record the cookie choices you have made and the version of this policy you made them against (kept for up to 12 months, stored only in your browser). At checkout, our payment processor Stripe sets a cookie used to prevent payment fraud; this is necessary for taking payment securely.

Marketing. The Meta Pixel and Mailchimp tracking described above. These are blocked before you make a choice, load only if you allow marketing, and are blocked again if you deny or withdraw consent.

We do not currently use analytics cookies. We also honour your browser’s Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals: if they are switched on, non-essential cookies are refused automatically. You can additionally block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the shop may stop working if you block the necessary ones.

How long we keep it

Order, licence and account records are kept for as long as your licence is valid and for at least six years afterwards, because we are required to keep financial records. Mailing list data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Advertising data is kept for the retention periods set by the relevant provider.

For our studio services, we work to the following periods as company policy: enquiry contact details are deleted after 24 months of inactivity; project information is kept for the length of the project plus 12 months after delivery; uploaded audio and project files are deleted 60 days after final delivery unless we agree otherwise with you in writing; abandoned enquiries are deleted after 12 months; and declined projects after 6 months, unless there is a dispute or a legal or accounting reason to keep them.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • ask us to delete your information, where we are not required to keep it
  • ask us to restrict how we use it
  • object to us using it for marketing, at any time and for any reason
  • ask us to transfer it to another provider
  • withdraw your consent at any time

To exercise any of these, email mgmt@deadquiet.studio. We will respond within one month.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local supervisory authority if you are in the EU.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
